About
Dr. Richard J White is Senior Lecturer of Economic Geography at Sheffield Hallam University. To date, Richard's main area of research has focused on exploring the geographies of the informal economy in the Minority World/ advanced economies generally, and in particular through understanding community self-help, mutual aid and reciprocity. His research, largely focused on the household coping strategies of both affluent and deprived households, has critically challenged many dominant myths that surround our understanding of contemporary work and exchange in "capitalist" society.
Richard's broad teaching and lecturing profile includes: re-thinking the economic in economic geography; household work practices; critical animal studies; philosophical approaches to space and place; alter-globalisation groups; protest strategies; dissident and moral geographies; research methods; and critical pedagogy.
Richard is currently the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal for Critical Animal Studies (JCAS)

He is also serving on the Editorial Boards of "The International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy" (IJSSP) and the Transformative Studies Institute (TSI).
In 2009, Richard was named "Outstanding Reviewer of the Year" by Emerald for work undertaken on the International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy.
