Faculty Member, Department of Education, Childhood and Inclusion (DECI)
Senior Lecturer (Disability Studies)
About
I am the Course Leader for the BA (Hons) in Education and Disability Studies. I also supervise EdD and PhD students (if you are interested in studying for a doctorate related to Disability Studies at Sheffield Hallam University, please contact me to discuss the possibility).
My main areas of research include the negotiation of ‘disability’ in popular culture, interpretative strategies within Cultural Disability Studies and, more recently, the commodification of impairment.
I have been the principal coordinator of the Disability Research Forum (DRF) since 2005, was a founding member of the Cultural Disability Studies Research Network (CDSRN) and am a member of the Communication and Computing Research Centre (CCRC) which is part of Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute (C3RI) at Sheffield Hallam University. I am on the editorial board of Disability and Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
